Graffiti created by my 7th and 8th graders.
7th and 8th grade artists in my IDEA class explored the urban art
form Graffiti. Students learned that although
graffiti is often times done
illegally (without permission from property
owners) some graffiti artists are
actually commissioned to create the
murals they design and paint. Students were
charged with creating a tag and
using stylistic characteristics of graffiti to
make a completed “throw up,”
“piece,” or “wildstyle” graffiti. The perfected
designs were then drawn on
their portfolios and traced using heavy black
permanent marker. Finally,
students were introduced to the graffiti coloring
tips listed on
GraffitiDiplomacy.com. The results turned out to be visually
stunning!
